Grado Holiday
Grado fell into the hands of the
Austrians after the Treaty of Campoformio in 1797 and
remained almost uninterruptedly so till 1918, when it
was annexed to Italy.
Grado holiday
Today Grado holiday is a well-equipped seaside and
health resort, where fishing thrives: it owes its fame
to its superb beaches, its charming landscape, its
places of worship and the dialectal poems by the great
late Biagio Marin (1891-1985).
Thanks to the specific proprieties of
sand the privileged location of the sandbathing
establishments on a seashore Grado holiday that is the
only one on the Adriatic Sea to face South completely,
the island can boast one of the most renown
psammo-therapeutic centres and amongst the few
scientifically recognised.
Psammo-therapy or sandbathing is the most ancient
treatment process of Grado's Thalasso- therapeutic
Institute. The sand bath, which has been operative on
the golden island since the beginning of the XX century,
is a therapeutic procedure known even in the ancient
times. Signs of this process are to be found amongst the
works of Herodotus and Seneca. |
