Today Grado holiday is a well-equipped seaside and health resort, where fishing thrives: it owes its fame to its superb beaches, its charming landscape, its places of worship and the dialectal poems by the great late Biagio Marin (1891-1985).

Thanks to the specific proprieties of sand the privileged location of the sandbathing establishments on a seashore Grado holiday that is the only one on the Adriatic Sea to face South completely, the island can boast one of the most renown psammo-therapeutic centres and amongst the few scientifically recognised.
Psammo-therapy or sandbathing is the most ancient treatment process of Grado's Thalasso- therapeutic Institute. The sand bath, which has been operative on the golden island since the beginning of the XX century, is a therapeutic procedure known even in the ancient times. Signs of this process are to be found amongst the works of Herodotus and Seneca.
